Data that leaves your browser
To display ratings, the extension transmits only the artist name and album title detected on the page you are viewing (Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music, etc.).
This information is sent:
- to our shared server, which acts as a relay for Discogs and resolves Spotify pages;
- directly to the rating and reference sites queried: RateYourMusic, AllMusic, Discogs, Album of the Year, SensCritique, Sputnikmusic, Pitchfork, MusicBrainz, Wikidata, Wikipedia.
No account data, identifiers, browsing history, or personal information is transmitted. Only the artist and album from the page you opened are sent.
When a rating cannot be retrieved, the extension reports the failure to our server (the rating site, reason, artist, album, music page address, and extension version) so we can fix the issue. These reports contain no personal information.
Server-side cache
Rating results are temporarily stored on our server for between 12 hours and 30 days, depending on the source. This cache reduces requests to third-party sites and speeds up display. It contains only public album information and never any data about you.
Local storage
The extension uses browser storage (chrome.storage.sync) only to remember your selected visual theme and whether the welcome message has been seen. These settings are never sent to our server.
Affiliate links
The panel includes a "Merch" link to an Amazon search for the artist and album. It contains our affiliate tag and is only opened when you click it. As an Amazon Associate, RateLens earns from qualifying purchases.
